LGBTQ+ affirming therapy in Indiana, Illinois & Michigan

No explanations required. No conditions.

LGBTQ+ adults seeking therapy with someone who is genuinely affirming — not just tolerant — across identity, relational structures, and life stage.

In Shannon's words

Difference in gender identity and sexuality, like neurodivergence, is a variation in the human genome — part of who you are, not a flaw to be corrected. Your pronouns and preferred name are accepted without pushback, without explanation required — the focus of our work stays on what you actually want to work on. Your identity isn't treated as the presenting problem, and coming out isn't treated as the destination — it's not where the work ends, and for a lot of people, it isn't even where the work is. This space is built for accommodation and support tailored to you: helping you feel safe enough to explore and discover yourself, not changing who you are to fit somewhere else. This is part of you, not the entirety of you — and you decide how much or how little space it takes up in our work together.

What that looks like in practice is meeting whatever you actually bring: minority stress, family rupture, religious trauma, alternative relationship structures, body-related dysphoria, transition-related care, grief for a life that wasn't possible, joy that's had nowhere to go and doesn't know what to do with itself now.

I'm not a sex therapist, or a couples therapist — if that's integral to your care I'm happy to work alongside another provider in collaborative care.

“Affirming” is a word used widely enough that it has lost some of its weight. Here is what it means in this practice:

  • Identity exploration is welcomed and encouraged; we are all in constant evolution.
  • Coming out and being out are different stages with different needs. Therapy here meets both.
  • Minority stress is real and clinically substantiated.
  • Family rejection, religious wounding, transition support, identity grief
  • Relationship structures beyond monogamy are accepted as a given, and any part of intimacy that is discussed is client-led and never forced in session.

You are welcome here as you are. There is no version of you that has to show up first.
